Ibinabo was born in London to Nigerian parents and was raised in Wigan from the age of seven. She is the third of six children and showed signs of a love for performance from an early age, writing and performing radio plays with her siblings on the family cassette recorder.
Ibinabo received a Dance and Drama Award and won a scholarship from Dame Judi Dench which enabled her to complete her training at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in 2009. She graduated with a first-class degree in Musical Theatre.
Ibinabo made her West End debut originating the role of Pilar in the original London cast of Legally Blonde The Musical (Savoy Theatre), directed by Jerry Mitchell. Before training, she originated the role of Nala in The Legend of the Lion King, directed by Craig Revel Horwood.
Notable theatre credits include originating the role of Lorrell Robinson in the London premiere of Dreamgirls (Savoy Theatre), directed by Casey Nicholaw, Olivia in The Color Purple (Menier Chocolate Factory), directed by John Doyle, and Chiffon in Little Shop of Horrors (Royal Exchange Theatre), directed by Derek Bond.
Ibinabo made her TV debut joining the core cast of ITV’s crime drama Vera, starring Brenda Blethyn.
She appeared in six episodes of BBC’s Doctors as Theresa Sutton and had featured roles in C4’s Doctors and BBC’s Warren starring Martin Clunes.
In winter 2020, Ibinabo will make her CBBC debut in new comedy sketch show Big Fat Like.
Ibinabo was awarded Best Supporting Actress in a New Production of a Musical in 2017 by BroadwayWorld.com for her performance as Lorrell Robinson in Dreamgirls.
